Our Overall Goal
“Provide the right information at the right time.”
We wanted our product to really live up to its name and feel like an intelligent look at your credit report. This meant evolving from a series of clicks and pages, to a dynamic conversation a user and their information - allowing for exploration and providing context for comprehension.
Our business partners were reliant on data scraping programs to get customer data from existing pages, so any update which would break these conventions would incur tremendous disruption. Such a change would have to wait until we could dedicate more resources for the creation of a partner API for easier requests of data.
Our Detailed Goals
Restructure the Smart Credit Report® to improve user experience, specifically; the ease of navigation and speed of comprehension
Set up a foundation for iterative product updates as more development resources become available
Add Search / Filter function
Increase usage of the product and diversity of content visited
Our Process
Research & Insights
We researched user navigation through pages to identify user goals and how they were trying to achieve them.
Our Business Partnership team interviewed B2B partners about their use of the product; including workflow, important information and business goals.
A major insight - though a credit report is very similar from person to person, the end goals of the person using a credit reporting software can vary greatly between cases. Accounting for this and providing the right information at the right time was critical to increased usage of the product.
Concept & Design
With our team committed to the current content and general organization, the greatest improvements were to be made to information hierarchy, providing a strong hierarchy of information and fast navigation to general review, (birds eye view) desired categories topics (available credit, # of accounts, etc) or a specific account.
Drastic updates to typography and UI structure for easier reading and navigation.
Goal of Information Structure:
Land on the product page and immediately be able to answer the question “What is the current state of my credit?”
3 levels of Information (overview, topic, account)

Plans for later stages
Laying a foundation for this product was a very important focus because later iterations could then be incremental. This would allow for greater user testing, a more cohesive experience throughout the product life and chances for business marketing around new features.
